Additional borrowing

When it comes to raising some extra funds, borrowing more money on your mortgage could be a good option. If you’ve had a mortgage with us for at least the last 6 months, you may be eligible to borrow up to 95% of the value of your home (75% for Buy to Let customers).

Why might you consider additional borrowing?

We all have our own story and what comes next is down to you. But if your next chapter involves a larger expense, additional borrowing could give you the capital you need.

Additional borrowing could be suitable for things like:

  • A new car
  • Making improvements around the home
  • The big day (yours or your loved ones')
  • Making your home more energy efficient.

Additional borrowing is subject to criteria, including affordability and conduct of your account. You could lose your home if you don’t keep up your mortgage repayments. Most Buy to Let mortgages are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Green Additional Borrowing

At Skipton, we want to support our customers who are looking to reduce their carbon footprint. One of the ways we can all do this is to improve the energy efficiency of our homes.

Our Green Additional Borrowing products could help existing customers borrow more money to make their home greener with improvements such as:

  • Solar panels
  • Insulating your property
  • New windows and doors
  • Ground or air source heat pumps
  • Bio-mass boilers.

Our Green Additional Borrowing range

  • Attractively priced
  • No product fees
  • Borrow between £5,000 and £50,000 depending on your individual circumstances
  • At least 50% of the amount you borrow must be spent on energy efficient home improvements, and you'll need to provide quotes for the full work with your application.

Can I borrow more on my mortgage?

We have additional borrowing available on most of our remortgage products. It’s important to consider if other forms of borrowing may be more suitable for you. Any money we lend through our additional borrowing will be secured against your property, and your overall mortgage balance will increase.
