Charitable giving

Giving to charity is something that’s rooted in our desire to help others and make a positive impact on the world around us. It can strengthen communities, transform lives and help create a better world for all.

Since 2022 we have committed to giving 1% of our pre-tax Group profit to charity each year.

Supporting better financial wellbeing

We believe financial advice and education should be more accessible, so we're working with charities to help people experiencing hardship speak freely about financial difficulty, know where to access relevant education and support, and be confident in managing their money.

Helping people have a home

Everyone should have a place where they feel safe and belong. That’s why we’re passionate about supporting charities that help people living in hardship to have a place to call home  - whether they’re at risk of becoming homeless or living in poverty.

Championing warm and efficient homes

We want to do our part in improving awareness and helping advance the move towards better insulated homes with lower carbon footprints across the UK. We've partnered with a charity who provides education and support on improving energy efficiency in our homes, particularly for those living in fuel poverty.

Our charity partnerships

We believe in doing more for our members and communities.

We run a charity partnership programme where we work together with important causes, going beyond helping people with their finances. Through the programme, we support our chosen charity partners and help build a better society.

Here is a little bit of information on the three different charity partners we support.

Refuge

Refuge provides life-saving support to survivors of domestic abuse and their children, so they can help rebuild their lives free from fear.

Our members voted for Refuge in the 2025 AGM and with our funding Refuge will go towards helping survivors of domestic violence with their finances.

16% of adults in the UK have experienced economic abuse, which often leaves them trapped with their abuser or struggling to rebuild their life. Refuge will use the funding to make economic abuse support available nationally for the first time ever. This means survivors will have access to one-to-one specialist help regardless of their postcode.

They will help people deal with debts built up by their abuser, secure online accounts and speak with banks, HMRC, and credit agencies to give them more financial freedom.

At the same time, Refuge will help raise awareness through national campaigns, working with the government, police and banks to make sure no one is left to face economic abuse alone.

Age UK

Age UK was chosen by our members in 2024, and together we're supporting older people to live well and independently in safe, secure and warm homes. This funding will help provide vital information, advice, support and friendship for older people – including those living in poverty or in deprived communities.

As part of this, Age UK will use the funding to provide one-to-one, tailored advice sessions. These sessions will support vulnerable older people to have a place to call home.

Funding will also be used to carry out research into the impact of the cost-of-living crisis on older households.

National Energy Action

Chosen by our Skipton colleagues, National Energy Action is the national charity working to end fuel poverty in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

They offer advice and support to fuel-poor households, as well as advocating for policy and regulation to protect the most vulnerable.

In partnership with National Energy Action, we’ll support their work across the UK to help more people have a warm and safe home, providing community-based support for households in areas with high rates of fuel poverty.
